Riser of the Month: Jeff Davis

When Jeff Davis heard Rise owner Katelyn Kaese say, “You never know what you’re training for," at the end of a recent 6am workout, he had no idea how much the sentiment would soon apply to him personally. "Keep your body in the best possible shape so you’re ready for the unexpected," says Jeff. "In my case, the unexpected was heart surgery. After a routine checkup with my doctor in the spring, I learned I had a leaky valve in my heart. But because I was in overall solid cardiovascular health, the surgery to repair the valve was as minimally invasive as possible. This minimized disruption to my life and accelerated my recovery."

Jeff believes he has Rise and its amazing team to thank for his focus on health and ability to recover from the unexpected. "I joined Rise soon after moving to Glen Ellyn in 2015 and have been going to classes 3-4 days per week ever since," he says.

Jeff, we're so grateful for your commitment to health and wellness and to have you as a leader in the Rise community. Your daily effort and ability to stick to your long-term wellness goals, even when facing unexpected challenges, inspires us. Thank you for being our Riser of the Month. What Rise class gets you the most amped?

Kettlebell is probably my favorite class but I enjoy them all. There are so many great class options, all providing a terrific balance of cardio and strength training.

What makes Rise a standout for fitness studios?

The positive atmosphere of camaraderie and teamwork keeps me coming back and sticking to my regular fitness routine. After a few months away, I am excited to be back to working out at Rise.

What is your best healthy living tip?

My best healthy living tip is to make sure to have your regular checkups with your doctor. And I hope this message reaches a lot of the guys out there, including those whose partners are Rise regulars—give Rise a try. It will be a tremendous boost to your overall health and wellness, especially your cardiovascular health. Once you get into the routine of going, it isn’t difficult to stick to it. Your instructors and teammates will be all the inspiration you need to keep coming back!
