February 2022 Riser of the Month
During quarantine, when many people put activity and fitness on the backburner, Beth Muren decided to use the extra time in her day to get back into shape. Again like many, before the pandemic, Beth was working long hours and commuting about 2.5 hours a day. “I wasn't working out more than once a month, significantly overweight, and very out of shape,” she says. “When quarantine hit, the first few days I was barely logging 1000 steps a day.”
But a little while into quarantine, Beth decided to change her story. Having been previously introduced to RISE from her sister, Beth saw the RISE Zoom option. She logged in one morning, then two, then three, until it felt too good to be moving to stop. “As the days went on, I was getting stronger and stronger and I found that I enjoyed working out every morning,” she says. “I never thought I would go back to in-person classes since Zoom was an option, but in the fall I started back to in person classes. I have to say, for me, it has made a huge difference in getting me to the next level of my fitness. I am still on the journey, but I do not want to go back to the person I was two years ago. I want to keep improving, gaining more confidence and getting stronger - that is what is keeping me engaged and focused. It also is what keeps me motivated.”
Now fully dedicated to her wellness, Beth is additionally motivated to be a great role model for her daughter. “I really have been trying to be my best self,” she says.
Fellow RISERs and instructors alike see this too. Congratulations on your dedication, Beth. We love to see you RISING with us every day. Continue reading to learn more about Beth, our February RISER of the month!
What are your short and long-term workout goals?
My long-term workout goals are to be able to do an entire class without modifications and finish with a full 1-minute plank without needing to modify. I have a small tear in my shoulder, an issue with my hip and another issue with my left Achilles tendon. It's like a trifecta of issues, but my short-term workout goals are to continue to build up my strength and push myself a little harder each week.
What specifically, other than format or schedule, do you like about RISE?
I love everything about RISE! The Challenges always come at the perfect time, just when I need it the most. The instructors are awesome, always pushing when I need to be pushed or giving me modifications. They are also ALWAYS there to help when I need it. Sometimes if I have to do a zoom replay, I will text them to let them know just so they can help me stay accountable to myself.
What RISE class gets you feeling the most mentally and physically amped?
There are so many to choose from and I really do love them all. I think the ones that get me feeling the most amped are Kettlebell, Lifted and Bag to Boot (Heavy Bags).
What’s your best healthy living tip?
My best healthy living tip is to take time for yourself everyday no matter what the activity. The other tip I try to follow is to put down the phone or turn off the TV and just be present in the moment.
