August Riser of the Month: Christie McGuinn
A year and a half ago, Christie McGuinn decided it was time to switch up her workout routine. An avid trainer and former runner, Christie knew she was up for a challenge. “I wanted to find a group fitness class that was fun yet challenging,” says Christie. “I gave Rise a try and never looked back!”
While Christie has tried different fitness studios, it’s the Rise instructors that keep her coming back for more every day. “I love the instructors more than anything,” she says. “Every single one of them is fun and super motivating.”
Beyond the instructors, Christie says it’s her fellow Risers that keep her motivated to give each class her all. “If they can make the effort to show up and try their best, so can I,” says Christie.
When it comes to working out, Christie is in it for the long term, hoping to continue coming to RISE no matter her age. Christie, we love your attitude and effort, and we’ll be by your side working out for the long term too! Your amazing commitment makes you our RISER of the Month.

What Rise class gets you feeling the most mentally and physically amped?
I have a love/hate relationship with barre! It is such a great combination of strength and endurance – but it’s hard as hell! I always walk out of class knowing I got a full body workout.
What’s your biggest challenge in getting to class, and how do you combat that challenge?
Work is probably my biggest challenge, because there is always too much to do and not enough time to do it. It’s so easy to keep working and not take a break to go to Rise. However, I tell myself how important it is to take one hour for myself. That one hour really helps lower my stress levels and puts me in a better mindset the rest of the day.
What’s your athletic background?
I am a former runner – lots of half marathons and 5-10Ks. I really miss the endorphin high from a good run – BUT I still get that high after a super hard Rise workout!
What’s your best healthy living tip?
Keep your body moving every day. I love wearing my Apple watch because it ensures that I get my steps in. On the days that I don’t go to Rise, I will typically go for a long walk. It’s a nice counter-balance to Rise classes.
